Imagine a one-acre vegetable farm.

Pretty small farm, right? Indeed, farms that tiny are generally called “micro-farms.” And they have their own set of issues.

An Okanagan farm focused on sustainability and innovation has teamed up with the Food and Agriculture Institute at the University of the Fraser Valley to provide research opportunities and practicum placements for students.

The King’s representative in B.C. is visiting the South Okanagan this week, where she’ll tour a vertical farming operation, visit veterans and serve as guest of honour at the first-ever Indigenous Golf Championship of B.C.

Okanagan Falls has suffered a gradual economic decline, with few shops and restaurants populating the downtown area. However, that could be changing soon as last year, a full-service grocery store, Belich’s AG Foods, opened in town after several months without one. And more recently, the historic Ok Falls Hotel was purchased with plans to reopen.

A vertical farm, a business park, and a resurrection of the community’s traditional social hub and party palace.
